Osborne 1

The Osborne 1 is a luggable computer produced by the Osborne Computer Corporation, and is considered to be the first commercially successful portable computer. The QWERTY-style keyboard latches onto the front of the computer and can be held by two black fasteners on the top, and connects to the computer via a proprietary computer. The front of the computer also contains the integrated CRT display, dual 5.25" floppy diskette drives (which were upgradable to support double density formatting), dual storage bays for floppy disks, brightness and contrast dials for the display, and connectors for external video, IEEE 488, serial RS232, modem, and an optional battery pack. The power socket port is protected by a flap door and is accessible at the rear of the unit, beside a leather carrying handle. The computer is housed in a black and beige plastic enclosure. This particular unit is signed on the top by Osborne 1 designer Lee Felsenstein.
