27 Column Soroban Abacus

A Japanese Soroban Abacus, featuring 27 columns of beads divided into 1 “heaven bead” and 4 “earth beads” each. A small portion of text has been scratched into a rear portion of the wood and later partially crossed out, leaving legible the surname “Tanaka” along with a pair of characters indicating use in a Buddhist temple or monastic setting.
